The painting ‘Twilight Serenade’ shows an aerial view of St Kilda Beach and Port Phillip Bay, captured from the iconic Edgewater Towers on Marine Parade. Seeing St Kilda from above allows one to experience the city from a different perspective and reflect on the city as a whole.

In the twilight sky, a crane can be seen constructing a new Luna Park on the sea shore - fantasy and dizzy excitement is at work at this sea side playground. A dazzling gold and orange jewel-like sunset merges into the mauve and blue coloured water. The roads in the distance are painted as fluid, wiggly, brown lines that reach into the roads of the foreground. Dots of lights from meandering cars and street lights from Beaconsfield Parade and Jacka Boulevard glisten in the sky like glow flies dancing and winding around the landscape.

The dizzy heights and hypnotic colours, movement of the ocean, city cars and lights all allow the viewer to slip into a dreamlike encounter; hence the title, ‘Twilight Serenade’. MORE
