In this exhibition, Alison Percy continues on from her Quietude show earlier this year, now focusing on just one element - the flower. As a skilled practitioner of calligraphic art and the Japanese sumi-e form of painting, Percy adapts these techniques in creating her own contemporary style, building layers of glazes with increasing opacity of metallic pigment. Percy expertly balances the delicate and bold with every choice in her artwork: the deliberate line and luminous strength of the metallic paint are softened by the curves of the flowers, the natural fibres of Japanese washi paper and the essence of organic grounding in her composition. The restrained colour palette too, allows each artwork to both shine and rest with the simplicity of this Ying and Yang balance. This exhibition, as with all of Percy's work, skilfully achieves a recognition of traditional painting forms whilst being progressively contemporary.
OPENING NIGHT: Join us for drinks and artist talk from 6pm on Friday the 7th of November.
